Variability analysis in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) crosses under drought stress

چکیده

Climate change in recent years has affected crop production to a greater extent. To overcome these effects, climate-resilient varieties are needed. Tomato is versatile crop. However, its growth hindered when it by drought stress. Hence, variability analysis of tomatoes under stress was carried out at Horticulture College and Research Institute, Coimbatore. Variability studies revealed that all the crosses for parameters exhibited higher phenotypic coefficient variation (PCV) values than genotypic (GCV), indicating influence environmental effects. For crosses, viz., EC169966 × LE118, EC177824 LE27 Arka Ashish LE27, high PCV GCV were recorded characteristics including fruit number per plant, yield lycopene content peroxidase activity. Characteristics such as flowers cluster, individual weight fruit, relative water content, proline activity ascorbic acid heritability coupled with genetic advance percentage mean (GAM). Thus, direct selection above improves drought-tolerant breeding programs tomato.

Acclimation to Drought Stress Enhances Oxidative Stress Tolerance in Solanum lycopersicum L. Fruits

A moderate water deficit stress (S1) applied 10 days after anthesis was found to induce acclimation to a subsequent more severe drought stress (S2) in Solanum lycopersicum L.. When plants were pretreated with S1, and then subjected to S2, fruit water status remained similar to controls. In contrast, S2 induced a decrease in both parameters of water status and diameter of fruits from non-acclima...

Comparative proteomic analysis of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) leaves under salinity stress

Salinity is a major constraint to crop productivity. The mechanisms responsible for the effects of salt stress on tomato plants were examined by means of proteomic analysis. Two contrasting tomato genotypes (cv. Roma and cv. SuperMarmande) seedlings were cultivated using a hydroponic system in the controlled environment growth chamber. The salt stress (NaCl) was applied (0, 100 and 200 mM) and ...

Gene expression analysis of Solanum lycopersicum and Solanum habrochaites under drought conditions

Drought is one of the limiting environmental factors that affect crop production worldwide. Understanding the molecular mechanism of drought stress is the key to developing drought tolerant crop. In this experiment we performed expression profiling of tomato plants under water deficit conditions using microarray technology. The data set we generated (available in the NCBI/GEO database under GSE...

Physiological and Proteomic Analysis in Chloroplasts of Solanum lycopersicum L. under Silicon Efficiency and Salinity Stress

Tomato plants often grow in saline environments in Mediterranean countries where salt accumulation in the soil is a major abiotic stress that limits its productivity. However, silicon (Si) supplementation has been reported to improve tolerance against several forms of abiotic stress. The primary aim of our study was to investigate, using comparative physiological and proteomic approaches, salin...
